Side by Side is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Louisville Kentucky. Their mission is to empower individuals of all ages via the development of self-confidence and compassion. They achieve this mission via arts-based program activities, advocacy, and education. Side by Side offers preschool, elementary-aged, teens, and family art programs. They specialize in programs focused on process-based art, purposeful and child-led learning, social and emotional skills, and Project-Based education philosophies.
They focus on Collaborative art making- this means that Side by Side collaborates with other local nonprofit agencies that serve youth. They believe that collaboration allows them to make a greater impact in the community by reaching youth from all demographics, backgrounds, and social status.
Secondly their artmaking workshops use a few different art materials that depend upon the learning objective, artist profile and obtainment. These materials could be like the material that the artist they are discussing used or they use a generic version of materials.
The main objective is to use tools and materials that are safe and accessible. These materials include but are not limited to, fiber, clay, mixed media, paint, brushes, blank canvas, glue, markers and recycled materials. Side by Side measures the outcome of our programs based upon how many of the following goals they have met; Youth develop positive self-coping skills Promotes creativity and self-expression Resources for transitioning young adult Mentorship Mental Health Support.
