Culinary Arts Grants for Black-Owned Restaurants Awarded to Five Louisville Restaurants
Grants made possible by Fund for the Arts and Rabbit Hole Distillery
LOUISVILLE (September 7, 2021) – Fund for the Arts’ Culinary Initiative Strategic Relief Fund and Rabbit Hole are pleased to announce that $2,500 Culinary Arts Grants will be awarded to five Black-Owned Restaurants in Louisville. The grants are meant to celebrate Louisville’s vibrant culinary institutions and to help them recover from the devastating impacts of COVID-19.
On June 14, 2021 Rabbit Hole unveiled its highly-anticipated Single Barrel release and launched its national Single Barrel Program. At a special launch event held that evening at the Rabbit Hole Distillery in NuLu, all proceeds from the sale of the limited edition “Single Barrel” art bottles were donated to support the Fund’s COVID-19 Restaurant Relief Grants.
Recipients of the Culinary Arts Grants for Black-Owned Restaurants were selected through a nomination process. Community members were invited to nominate local Louisville restaurants that they believed represented the vibrancy of our community’s culinary sector. All grant recipients were chosen from those that were nominated.
Recipients of the Culinary Arts Grants for Black-Owned Restaurants are listed below.
• Ada’s Kitchen
• The Black Italian
• Daddy Rich’s
• Sultra’s Vegan Kitchen (formerly Flora Kitchenette)
• Shirley Mae’s Café
Andre Kimo Stone Guess, President & CEO of the Fund for the Arts said, “The Fund’s Culinary Initiative Strategic Relief Fund supports Louisville’s vibrant cultural sector by providing targeted financial support to culinary institutions that are pillars in our community. We are grateful to Rabbit Hole for helping us further the impact of this program, especially after a year that has been exceedingly difficult for the culinary
arts community.”
Fund for the Arts Board Member and Senior Vice President of Republic Bank & Trust Carolle Jones Clay said, “After this last year when many families were struggling financially, it’s truly a blessing to have Rabbit Hole’s gift fund these Culinary Arts Grants for Black-Owned Restaurants. I think that it is important now more than ever that these restaurant owners receive this financial lifeline so that they can get back to doing the work that they do so well. They’re sure to feel the mental lift from this grant.”
Rabbit Hole’s Founder/Whiskey Maker Kaveh Zamanian said, “We stand with the local culinary arts community and are pleased to have had the opportunity to lend our support to these deserving restaurants. It is our hope that they come back stronger than ever.”
