The Louisville Youth Choir will present its annual Arts In Action Spring Concert on Saturday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Ursuline Arts Center, 3105 Lexington Road, building 5 on the Ursuline Campus. This concert performance will partner the choir with the American Red Cross to encourage the community and concertgoers to donate to this local non-profit’s efforts with local families in need of disaster relief.
LYC’s Lyric Choir will be gathering plush toys for young children, the Descant Choir will be gathering school supplies for school-age children and the Chamber and Aria Choirs will be gathering personal hygiene items for teens. These items along with cash donations to the American Red Cross will be collected at the Ursuline Arts Center from 5-8 p.m. the day of the concert for victims of the recent tornado outbreak in our area. An American Red Cross representative will be on hand to accept these donations and to address the concert audience. Past Arts in Action recipients have been Gilda’s Club Louisville, Family Scholar House, Operation Open Arms and the WHAS Crusade for Children.
This concert will feature an Americana theme and works of American composers. The performance repertoire will showcase soloists Gregory Rahming and Louisville-native, Courtney Cleveland. The Louisville Youth Choir’s ensembles are directed by Terri E. Foster and Dr. Louie L. Bailey and are accompanied by Thomas A. Seacat, Rhonda Hibdon and Dennis O’Donoghue. The choir is celebrating its 45th season comprised of over 100 singers from nearly 60 schools and home schools in the Louisville area and six surrounding counties.

Louisville Youth Choir, a nonprofit performing arts organization, was established in 1967 to create a passion for singing among young people. LYC annually draws around 100 youth from throughout the metropolitan area, and its musical repertoire includes many styles and cultures, including major classics and modern works, often performed with soloists and orchestras. Open auditions are held seasonally throughout the year, and weekly rehearsals culminate in more than five public performances annually. The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet provides operation support funding for The Louisville Youth Choir Inc. with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Sacred Heart School for the Arts (SHSA), fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, provides a vast array of learning, performance and showcase opportunities in music, dance, drama, and visual art for students of all ages throughout the Greater Louisville area. Students age 3 to adult grow as artists, develop expressive and technical skills, and gain a lifelong appreciation of the arts. In addition to its after-school tuition-based classes, SHSA provides arts instruction through an arts integration program as part of the school day for schools on the Ursuline Campus. In 2007, Sacred Heart Schools welcomed the renowned Louisville Youth Choir as artist in residence to SHSA.
