This was a great opportunity for UPS to once again be involved with the community.  UPS sent Richard Gardner and Craig Huffman to work with the Louisville Visual Arts and Fund for the Arts organizations, who were constructing a mural for the Shawnee Community Center- operated by Metro Parks.

The two volunteers learned a great deal about what LVA and Fund for the Arts do for the community.  It was also their first time in the Shawnee Community Center.  They enjoyed seeing the property, talking with the organizations, and helping to enhance the building, which provides so many great opportunities for local children.

Seeing all four groups come together for such a project to visually enhance the Shawnee Community Center- which offers so much for the local community, including: competitive art programs, music classes, open gym, Tai Chi and more- was a rewarding experience.   The mural that we helped paint was meant to visually enhance the art room area, as well as act as a sound barrier to block off noise from the gymnasium.  They would have liked to see the project through completion that day, but still enjoyed the experience regardless.

Community service is an important part of UPS’s overall core values, and we believe it is important to engage with local organizations, as economic stewards and individuals within our communities.  We strive to aid in the enrichment of the community and develop our future leaders, both within and outside of our organization.  Working with Louisville Visual Art, Funds for the Arts and the Shawnees Community Center was a great opportunity for the team and we look forward to our next opportunity to support these local organizations.
