Barbara Sexton Smith joined approximately 40 inner city children today at the The Presbyterian Community Center for storytime. This daily morning ritual is sandwiched between cheers and song all built to help inspire and ignite the children of this community.
We were met with practice cheers on our way into the building, it was quite a welcome! And then Barbara was rushed off to make a very weighty decision, “What book should I read today?” Topping the stack of titles was a book called, “Amazing Grace”. It chronicles the dreams of a young girl who has a big imagination and longs to perform on stage. The book immediately struck a chord with Barbara and not only did she read the story, but shared her own stories of local Louisville talent who made it big with the youngsters!
It was a wonderful morning. We met so many talented children and even one wearing a Fund for the Arts t-shirt! Check out our videos from the event and pictures below. Thank you Presbyterian Community Center for inviting Barbara to be your guest reader and for the powerful work you do on a daily basis to change lives.
