And what a show it will be! Whether it’s the press corps from all over the world descending upon Actors Theatre for the Humana Festival of New American Plays or the circus train rolling into town with an elephant parade down 9th Street, we’ve got a lot to be proud of right here in River City! That’s right. Tonight is Downtown Trolley Hop with a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on at the art galleries up and down Main and Market streets. Make sure to stop in KMAC (Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft) and see what they have in store for Derby 2011! KMAC is right across from Proof on Main which is located in 21c Museum Hotel – the #1 Hotel in America! You must see the CUBA NOW exhibit in their hotel lobby and atrium. Amazing!
Further down Main Street we’ve got the Louisville Ballet rehearsing all day, every day just to be ready next weekend to give you the thrill of a lifetime as you sit back and enjoy their performance of Rite of Spring followed by Troy Game, the most action-packed all-male ballet ever performed. I’m not kidding! Be careful if you’re on the front row – sweat may come flying your way! And, these are ArtsRush! performances – which means $10 TICKETS (limit 6) for all three performances (Friday at 8 pm and Saturday at 2 pm and 8 p.m.) Just visit the Kentucky Center box office two hours before the performances! Let me turn the spotlight on The Greatest Show on Earth featuring YOU! We’re right in the middle of our 2011 Fund for the Arts campaign and now’s the time for everyone to ADD 1. We call it “Making the Pie Bigger!” Whether you add $1 or bring one friend to the campaign, it all adds up. Mayor Fischer said, “There are two ways to get more pie. I can take yours or we can find more pie.” Humana Associates found more pie! They kicked off their employee campaign with a jazz combo playing in the lobby, Music Theatre Louisville performing in the break rooms, and an art exhibit upstairs showcasing more than 90 works of art created by co-workers. Marty Bell made the pie bigger by reporting a 22.5% increase from the Greater Clark County Schools campaign and the folks at Hilliard Lyons definitely found more pie by pledging $46,000 representing a 50% increase!
You may have read in The Courier-Journal this week that a TARC bus driver increased her gift from $500 last year to $1,000 this year. That’s called “Pie Mania!” Takin’ it to the streets last Thursday, we found ourselves at the airport with the public service officers who wanted to know where to buy Ballet tickets and when they could sign their pledge cards whilst Annette Skaggs – their campaign coordinator – sang an Italian aria. So, it is the middle that counts. Whether it’s the middle of the pie or the middle of the tarmac at the airport – STAND UP and be counted! ADD 1. BRING 1. I think we just found some more pie!
I hope to see you at Actors Theatre during the Humana Festival of New American Plays. Click here for ticket information. And, mark your calendar now so you don’t miss out on your Louisville Ballet ArtsRush! tickets next weekend!
On with the show…
