Summer camps are a great way to enrich your child’s summer vacation.  We have so many incredible camps offered by our member groups we thought we would spend the next week spotlighting each one of them!

Today’s summer camp spotlight features the Walden Theatre Summer Academy!

Skill-Building and Imagination-Intensive Acting Camps

Whether you have a younger child who loves bringing imaginary characters and stories to life, or an older student needing an active, challenging, and creative outlet during the dog day doldrums, Walden Theatre’s acting programs for young people are a great way to energize this summer.

Skill Building Workshops for students ages 9-18 are available in a range of disciplines, from PlaywritingPlaywritingImprov Intensive, and Stand-up Comedy Camp toTeen ActingShakespeareAudition Skills, and Scene & Song Study. Maybe your son or daughter has all the voice in the world but needs to polish up on acting skills to land a great part in the school musical. Maybe they want to get started on that script for the stage (or are looking at some screenwriting in the future) and need a workshop to see how dialogue and conflict work. Perhaps that funny kid in your life needs a little nudge to harness improv skills or get on the path to stand-up & humor writing. Whatever the case, these lively sessions with Walden Theatre’s accomplished instructors are a great antidote to the summer blahs and a sweet opportunity to develop talent or try something completely different.

For younger kids (ages 5-7), the imagination-driven Woodland Fantasy Workshop (session II or session III) is a neat way to exercise the imagination and have a really fun time creating characters and stories, all in cooperation with other kids. Lions and tigers and bears? How about dragons and wizards and elves? Whatever their imaginations take them, participants will learn the basics of acting through fun activities, structured play, and movement. And parents and friends will be treated to a performance on the final day of the camp that’ll showcase what campers have learned and the fun they’ve had.
