Liz Richter is an artist, muralist, illustrator and educator living and working in Louisville, KY. Murals and large scale installations grew from her experience as an educator and illustrator, as well as her painting and drawing practice, which is mostly self-taught. She uses bright hues and patterns to connect to the everyday viewer on the street. Historical and cultural references are layered within her narratives, and Richter always approaches art from the perspective of an educator and a student experiencing it for the first time. Richter taught elementary and middle school art for over six years in Kentuckiana before pursuing freelance opportunities as a working artist, and she has never forgotten her connection to the classroom; frequently creating educational, cross-curriculum content to accompany her public art projects.
Richter is dedicated to demystifying the artistic process and creating access to art experiences for at risk or under-served populations. She has worked extensively with the Kentucky School for the Blind, and has a deep interest in multi-sensory approaches to art that consider neurodiverse populations. Richter is also passionate about creating opportunities for mentorship of younger artists and apprentices, and actively seeks ways to include others in her work. She is available for custom educational offerings such as visiting artist, artist led workshops, lectures and more lengthy artist-in-residence programs, such as collaborative mural or installation projects.
