Overdale Elementary School received a Fund for the Arts Teacher Arts grant to bring the KY Opera to our school for an in-school performance. There were 8 singers, a piano accompanist, a narrator and wonderful costumes. They performed excerpts from “The Marriage of Figaro” in Italian with subtitles. Most notably, our students participated in the performance! The choir sang, 4th grade students performed a dance, and 5th grade students performed “Susanna’s favorite song” on the xylophones all as part of the wedding scene. Students who performed felt very special and were filled with excitement during this experience. All students were engaged throughout the performance. In class discussions following this performance students noted: how beautiful and strong the singing was, how the costumes helped you know who was which character, and how funny it was even in another language!
