Arts in Kindergarten Readiness expands access to the arts to Jefferson Co. Public School (JCPS) students ages 3 to 5 years. This initiative utilizes the transformative power of the arts to enhance early childhood academic readiness and social-emotional development.
Research shows that integrating the arts into the early childhood educational experience has profound benefits on:
• Social skill development (i.e., cooperation, empathy, helping)
• Emotion regulation ability (mood control, self-expression)
• Creativity development, which improves early childhood students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills
These benefits are even more profound for early childhood students from families with low-socioeconomic status—a population that JCPS Early Childhood Learning programs engage with.
