Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund for the Arts Creates New Arts Experiences for Louisvillians
Four Greater Louisville arts organizations receiving new support
LOUISVILLE, KY, November 10, 2017- Joy Mangano helped announce nearly $100,000 in new grants from the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund for the Arts (JLAF) today at Churchill Downs. Since its inception in 2016, the JLAF has raised over $1 million to promote and support arts access, education, and excellence. The new JLAF grant recipients are Actors Theatre of Louisville, Kentucky Shakespeare, Louisville Orchestra, and StageOne Family Theatre.
“The entire Lawrence family is proud to help propel Jennifer’s hometown forward through supporting our world-class arts and cultural community,” said Meredith Lawrence, Director of the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund for the Arts.
In August of 2017, the JLAF matched Louisville Metro Government’s funding with an additional $250,000 to implement the strategies and priorities of Imagine Greater Louisville 2020- an arts and culture vision to transform the region. The $500,000 in funding announced earlier this fall has been widely praised as an exemplary public-private partnership to address community priorities. Created in the spring of 2016, the JLAF supports the mission of Fund for the Arts and the key objectives identified by the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation (a component fund of The Community Foundation of Louisville, Inc.) which are to promote and support arts excellence, access, and education. The JLAF is supported in part with the proceeds from Awards in the Arts, a signature event that kicks off Derby week co-hosted by Fund for the Arts, the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund. Awards in the Arts celebrates the very best of the Greater Louisville’s arts community and those artists and arts organizations who positively transform our cultural landscape. The third annual Awards in the Arts will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Churchill Downs.
As part of her national book tour, Joy Mangano joined Fund for the Arts as the keynote speaker of the “Inventing Joy Luncheon” with proceeds supporting the JLAF. Mangano is a key supporter of both Awards in the Arts and the JLAF.
New Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund For the Arts Grants
- Actors Theatre of Louisville: $50,000 for a study for possible building enhancements
- Kentucky Shakespeare: $12,000 for a new website
- Louisville Orchestra: $25,000 for the new work, “The Greatest: Muhammad Ali”
- StageOne Family Theatre: $10,000 for the new play, “American Tales – John Henry, Pecos Bill and Brer Rabbit”
