A classic tale of ambition and the consequences of tampering with the power of nature, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein stands as a monument in English literature. This October, the whole family can experience this electrifying tale firsthand on Walden Theatre’s Nancy Niles Sexton Stage, October 13-22.

Nick DiMartino’s adaptation captures the Romantic spirit of the original novel, highlighting the relationship between scientist Victor Frankenstein and Elizabeth la Venza as they contend with the consequences of Victor’s experiment as it takes on a life of its own.

“There are many, many stage adaptations ofFrankenstein,” said Charlie Sexton, Walden Theatre Artistic Director and director of this production, “and all of them are selective in what material they include from the novel.” This version was attractive to Sexton in part because of the relationship between the main characters and the strains place on it by mad ambition, but he also liked that the characters are on the younger side. “It lends itself quite well to our company of talented young actors.”

Frankenstein is great family entertainment and an exciting entry into Walden Theatre’s 2011-2012 Season. Also, with Halloween coming up, it’s nice to have a hulking creature wandering around. Or is it?
