Join the Music Theatre of Louisville this week only for a fantastic journey back in time as they present Guys and Dolls starring Peter Riopelle as Nathan Detroit and Julie Evins as Miss Adelaide!
Guys and Dolls revolves around Nathan Detroit, the organizer of the oldest established permanent floating crap game in New York, who bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson $1,000 he can’t convince the next girl he sees to go to Havana with him. The next girl he sees happens to be Miss Sarah Brown, a pure-at-heart Salvation Army-type reformer, and the stage is set for a hilarious evening of complications and high hitting showtunes like “Luck Be a Lady”, and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat”. Directed by Peter Holloway with Choreography from Megan Bliss whose crapshooters ballet that occurs early in the second act is not to be missed!
Peter is thrilled to return to Music Theatre Louisville for this rollicking production of Guys & Dolls. He last appeared as John Adams in last season’s acclaimed production of 1776. Peter recently completed the Broadway First National Tour of The Drowsy Chaperone, and has appeared Off- Broadway as John Wilkes Booth in The Brothers Booth, Richard in The Baby Dance, and Yellowbird in Yellowbird and the Diva. Regional favorites include Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors, Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl, and the title role in Hamlet. Peter’s TV and film experience includes The West Wing, Comedy Central, and Commissioner Brentwood on General Hospital.
Julie Evins, our local girl, simply dazzles us as Miss Adelaide. She was last seen at Music Theatre Louisville as Martha Jefferson in 1776. Recent tours include Rizzo in the European Tour of Grease, Lola in Networks National tour of Damn Yankees. Her favorite roles include: Nancy in Oliver!, Julie Jordan in Carousel, Luisa in The Fantasticks, and Irene in Crazy For You. Julie is a proud alum of Western Kentucky University’s performing arts program and the University of Louisville’s graduate acting program.
Peter tells us this spectacular production, “‘Tells the story of a time that never existed, but we all kind of wish did.” And costume designer Sarah Russell makes it all a reality by using a mix of vintage clothing and classic costuming to make a colorful and cohesive design, reminiscent of the old Dick Tracy comics.
They have had audience goers from as far as Atlanta traveling up to see this show this week! As the musical says, “if you are looking for action, he’ll furnish spot!” And furnish Peter Holloway has did!
