Opening Night Call for Artists- 2020 Awards in the Arts

The Fund for the Arts and Churchill Downs will join forces for the fifth year to kick off Kentucky Derby week by celebrating the extraordinary local arts scene and live racing at Opening Night, Saturday, April 25, 2019.

On Opening Night, performing artists, which appear all over the track, including iconic places like Millionaire’s Row, The Paddock, and Awards in the Arts, the Fund for the Arts’ annual celebration of the Greater Louisville arts community. The average crowd for this event exceeds 20,000 people.

Who may apply?
Artists, artist collectives, and arts organizations from across Greater Louisville are invited to submit proposals for Opening Night Artists at Every Turn.

Proposal Theme

All proposals must have a central theme of “Orange”, the color of creativity.

Budget for Installations and Performances
A budget is available for all art installations and performances on Opening Night. You will be asked to submit a detailed budget for your performance or installation as part of the application.

Deadline to Submit Proposals
Proposals must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. EST, January 31, 2020.

Selected applicants will be notified in early March 2020 and invited to a mandatory artist breakfast and orientation at Churchill Downs in mid-April to prepare for the event.
